PV Tasting Notes
The 2009 Perlato is again simply superb, Great Houses make great wines regardless of vintage conditions, and make no mistake 2009 was an exceptionally good year. Dark garnet in colour, the nose is moderately intense with violets, spices and minerals all stacked on top of ripe black fruits. The acidity is a touch higher this vintage which will help its longevity, there is no heaviness to this wine, nothing is overripe, it remains fresh and fruity, elegant and refined, simply superb. This is how to make blended wines, for the money, with this pedigree, nothing short of marvellous. Tasted April 2011

The 2009 Perlato del Bosco is a stunner. Fresh delineated aromatics lead to layers of candied, expressive fruit. Silky tannins frame the explosive finish. In 2009 the blend is 60% Sangiovese – a touch higher than normal – and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.
This is a fabulous set of wines from Stefano Frascolla and Tua Rita. The 2008s show the real class of the year in Maremma.
Serve this top Tuscan wine with antipasto, barbecues, beef stroganoff, wind-dried beef, stuffed cabbage, roast guinea fowl, pigeon, rabbit, risotto, shepherds pie, strong meats, game and strong flavoured pasta dishes.
Bolgheri, on the Tuscan Coast is the home of one of the World’s finest vineyard sites, Tua Rita which was purchased in 1984 and founded on Rita and Virgilio’s insistence of retreating to a “quite place” and cultivating the land, their great passion. The first wine they felt good enough to be released was the 1992 Guisto di Notri a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot which was instantly talked about in both National and International press for its depth of flavour and “Tuscanicity”. The land located 100 metres above sea level is rich in micro elements such as zinc and iron as well as marble the distinguish the wines with “mineral regionality”.
In 1994 they left two barriques of 100% Merlot to make a wine without blending, Redigaffi would become a cult wine here and which has quickly become legend. Located just outside of the medieval town of Suvereto, this small estate is kept like a pristine garden, every branch and leaf is in place, yields are kept very low, the floors of the cellar are spotless, and everything is in perfect order. The wines being made here are of the highest quality, compared only equalled by Chateau Petrus according to Robert Parker, Tua Rita’s Redigaffi was the First Italian Winery to be awarded the perfect 100 Point score by Mr Parker himself, there is only one other. Whilst the Redigaffi has taken all of the limelight, another first wine made at the estate is somewhat underpriced, Giusto di Notri, this often ranks in the top 250 or so wines of the world, a Bordeaux Blend and is equal to a 2eme Grand Cru Classe wine, but sells for considerably less money.
