PV Tasting Notes
There’s a lovely delicacy to this wine, reminiscent of fine Burgundy, spicy aromas of red cherry, blackcurrant and fresh mountain herbs. The mouth presence is absolutely captivating, a mix of opulence and freshness, with deep red berry and spice cake flavours with hints of fine leather, superbly balanced, this harmonious and striking in its purity, finishes with seductive floral tones.

The 2007 Numero 8 is Canaiolo from vines that are more than fifty years old. It shows lovely intensity in its floral red fruit, with terrific length on the palate and a harmonious, polished finish. The Numero 8 is aged in steel and neutral French oak. It isn’t a blockbuster, but rather a wine that impresses for its overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015.
This is a lovely set of new releases from Castelvecchio. Consulting oenologist Luca D’Attoma has worked here since 2003. A 100% Sangiovese is also on the horizon, and should be a fascinating wine given the progress the estate has made in recent years.
Serve this with Prosciutto, or Gourmet pork sausages with lots of herbs, Pizza is a given and would suit Saltimbocca alla Romana, Lasagna, or virtually any pasta dishe with a meat sauce, Farfalle Carbonara with vegetables and grilled Quail with sour cherris and toasted walnuts.
Run by the dynamic & enthusiastic Filippo Rocchi & his sister Stefania, Castelvecchio is situated in San Casciano Val di Pesa, in the area that produces Chianti Colli Fiorentini, among the most dynamic denominations of Chianti. 32 hectares of the estate is cultivated with grapes. The condition of the soil is Pliocene in origin. It is characterized mainly by a kind of pebbly limestone rich in marl, and by sandstone, which offer a good agronomic fertility and basic freshness.
