PV Tasting Notes
The 2007 Harmonium is another richly textured and remarkable Nero d’Avola wine made in a spectacular style, everything comes together beautifully in this large scaled offering, yet all of the elements of a great wine are present, the aromatics are beautifully delineated and meld into deep layers of dark fruits, cherry, mulberries, blackcurrant, violets, chocolate, spices (pepper and nutmeg) cocoa and minerals. A gorgeous palate, this is seamless with sensational power and purity in an utterly compelling style, without doubt, this is a wine not to be missed. Notable distinction and class here, beautifully soft and yet with vibrant tannins, remaining fresh and fleshy with incredible persistence. Firriato are turning out benchmark wines not only from Sicily, but also from the whole of Italy. Nero d’Avola is the greatest red grape grown in Sicily and it’s what the Island is famous for, there are a few great producers making fabulous wines in either the traditional or modern style, this is totally modern and in my mind is equal to the 2005 vintage which received (then) the highest ever rating 96 points ever awarded to a wine from Sicily. Tasted January 2010.

The 2007 Harmonium (Nero d’Avola) is a richly-textured offering laced with dark red raspberries, flowers, spices and French oak. The expansive, generous Harmonium delivers gorgeous depth, clarity and persistence on the palate in a full-bodied expression of Nero d’Avola. The French oak could be a little less intrusive, but this is nevertheless a highly successful wine from Firriato. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.
What to pair this with....lots, simply lots...anything packed with flavour, roast game, game stews, pasta with game or a game sauce, risotto with porcini mushrooms and good quality sausages, roast mutton, saddle of venison, venison stew cooked with plums, braised meats especially cooked with the same wine...”died and gone to heaven”. Cheese.
