PV Tasting Notes
The 2008 Santagostino is another great red from Firriato, beautiful aromatics of cherries, and black berries, with an almost sour note...(rhubarb?), spices, herbs, tobacco leaf, Indian ink and asphalt. Made in an international style combining Nero d’Avola with Syrah presenting a soft mouthfeel of deep black fruits, very elegant, long and flavourful with a refreshingly unique taste. I like this very much. Interestingly the 2006 vintage was rated 90 points and 50th in the Wine Spectator round up of the TOP 100 wines of 2008, I think this might be just as good. Tasted Jan 2010

This brawny red shows layers of plum skin, blackberry, cassis and toasty oak, with hints of game, grilled herbs and mocha fleshing out the grippy finish. Nero d'Avola and Syrah.

The 2008 Baglio Soria Santagostino (Nero d’Avola) is an absolutely gorgeous wine that melds the aromatics of Nero d’Avola with the greater textural richness and spiciness of Syrah. A long, polished finish rounds out this attractive red that also happens to be a terrific value.
The versatility of this wine allows it broad appeal for any dishes, from lasagne, through gently roast veal chops, or tasty things like mushroom risotto, wild boar sausages, maybe pork ribs cooked with prunes...Mmm.. that would work well.
