PV Tasting Notes
This new vintage is again rather enticing; mid red ruby in colour, light in structure with fragrant sandalwood, spring flowers and red berry aromatics, with the slightest touch of bonfire embers. The palate is clean and fresh, not overly complicated but very juicy with a supple texture, and a slight lift of spicy character; good smooth finish. For the price this is a very solidly built Pinot Noir and I also have to admit, it’s still the best I’ve tasted in its price range.
86 Points The Wine Spectator Dec 2011 Delicate and pretty, offering fragrent floral, herb and white pepper aromatics on a light body, with the flavors echoing on the finish. Drink now.
This value Pinot Noir wine is at its best with any game bird, turkey, pheasant, partridge, grouse or woodcock, even osso buco alternatively roasted Chicken or chicken as in coq au vin or better still capon.
Meaning “Smokey River” in Maori, OPAWA PINOT NOIR is named after the vineyard in which the Nautilus Winery is situated. The Opawa River formed the gravel soils that make up the Marlborough Winegrowing heartland which includes the Nautilus Opawa Vineyard, and lead to the ripe, juicy structure of this wine. Building on Nautilus’ reputation as one of the region’s most respected producers of Pinot Noir, and its specialised Pinot Noir winemaking facility, Opawa meets a demand for a top quality, mid price pinot.
