PV Tasting Notes

This new 2010 vintage is again lovely and enticing; mid red ruby in colour, light in structure with fragrant sandalwood, pink flowers and red cherry aromatics, with the slightest touch of bonfire embers. The palate is clean and fresh, not overly complicated but very juicy with a supple texture, and a slight lift of spicy character; good smooth finish. For the price this is a very solidly built Pinot Noir and I also have to admit, it’s still the best I’ve tasted in its price range.

Independent Review

86 Points Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate Oct 2011
Pale ruby-purple in color, the 2010 Pinot Noir presents aromas of warm cherries, ripe raspberries and cranberries with hints of cloves and red rose petals. Medium bodied with nice balance in the mouth, it has a low level of silky tannins, lively acid and a long pure berry laced finish. Drink it now through 2014.

This value Pinot Noir wine is at its best with any game bird, turkey, pheasant, partridge, grouse or woodcock, even osso buco alternatively roasted Chicken or chicken as in coq au vin or better still capon.

Meaning “Smokey River” in Maori, OPAWA PINOT NOIR is named after the vineyard in which the Nautilus Winery is situated. The Opawa River formed the gravel soils that make up the Marlborough Winegrowing heartland which includes the Nautilus Opawa Vineyard, and lead to the ripe, juicy structure of this wine. Building on Nautilus’ reputation as one of the region’s most respected producers of Pinot Noir, and its specialised Pinot Noir winemaking facility, Opawa meets a demand for a top quality, mid price pinot.
