PV Tasting Notes

Deep ruby with purple tones, very similar to the 2004 vintage, we skipped the 2005 in preference to this, well balanced, with ripe cherries, plum and hints of tobacco leaf, medium bodied and ripe tannins on the finish. Easy good quality drinking representing top value and should drink really well through 2015.

Serve this with Prosciutto, or Gourmet pork sausages with lots of herbs, Pizza is a given and would suit Saltimbocca alla Romana, Lasagna, or virtually any pasta dishe with a meat sauce, Farfalle Carbonara with vegetables and grilled Quail with sour cherries and toasted walnuts.

Run by the dynamic & enthusiastic Filippo Rocchi & his sister Stefania, Castelvecchio is situated in San Casciano Val di Pesa, in the area that produces Chianti Colli Fiorentini, among the most dynamic denominations of Chianti. 32 hectares of the estate is cultivated with grapes. The condition of the soil is Pliocene in origin. It is characterized mainly by a kind of pebbly limestone rich in marl, and by sandstone, which offer a good agronomic fertility and basic freshness.

Wine obtained from 100% of Sangiovese grapes, fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel vats during 10 days with daily pumping over and pressings. The wine is aged for a minimum of 7 months in French barriques and then further aged in bottle.
