PV Tasting Notes

Potentially one of Australia's most distinctive Shiraz wines, the 2004 Bonnefoy Shiraz displays distinctly Rhone-like, earthy, meaty flavours reminiscent of blood, chocolate and black fruits. It is an explosive, full-bodied, eccentric effort made from hand selected fully ripe fruit and aged in 100% New French Oak before being bottled without filtration. The wine explodes on the palate, offering notes of Black forest fruitcake intermixed with spice, beef blood, and animal characteristics. While it may not be for everybody, it is an exquisite Hermitage styled expression of Shiraz made in a completely different climate to those from South Australia. The seamless, accessible wine can be drunk now as well as over the next 12+ years, 250 cases made.

Independent Review

Five Stars & 93 points – James Halliday Wine Companion 2008 Edition
Medium red purple colour. Savoury, spicy cool grown style with undoubted elegance and length.

93 points – Ray Jordan’s Guide to Australian Wines
Four Stars – Winestate Magazine

Simply match this to Peppered Steak, Beef with olives, Slow roasted meats, Barbecued Beef Ribs or Lamb Chops, would also be good with Moussaka and Steak and Kidney Pie.
