PV Tasting Notes

People are beginning to be shocked by encounters with top-flight Merlot from Australia, it really doesn’t happen very often. The 2004 Bissy Merlot from Woodside is a tiny production (150 case cuvee) knock-out effort from the Margaret River that is aged in 100% New French oak, exhibiting a dark ruby/purple colour in addition to rich aromas of berry fruit, tobacco leaf, chocolate, and subtle herbs. This fleshy, voluptuously-textured, hedonistic Merlot will provide immense pleasure over the next 6-10 years.
Independently rated as "Australia's Best Merlot released" in 2007.

Independent Review

Five Stars & 94 points – James Halliday Wine Companion 2008 Edition
An attractive medium bodied varietal wine. The character of Merlot clearly expressed. Fine soft olive, gentle earth and red fruit flavours.
97 points – Ray Jordan’s Guide to Australian Wines
“Best of New Releases” – Winestate Magazine

This lovely Merlot is perfect for Fillet of Beef Marchand de Vin (with wine and bone marrow) Roast Fillet of Beef but avoiding Beef Wellington, pasty dulls the palate. Roast lamb and Venison. However this is quite simply a joy to drink without any food accompaniments.

Pride, Passion and Purpose is the motto of Woodside Valley Estate, the winery has this year been upgraded from a 4 star rating to the top rating of 5 Stars, signifying top notch quality across the range of wines. An almost draconian sorting and selection of fruit, coupled with 100% quality French Oak, The result is the Baudin Collection and clearly reflects the craftsmanship, attention to details and meticulous care taken in the production of these exceptional wines, which are the truest expression of the character and quality of Northern Margaret River fruit. Woodside Valley Estate is truly an ultra premium boutique producer with a total annual production of between 1000 and 1500 cases, distributed around Australia and internationally.
