PV Tasting Notes

Deep purple with some heavy fruit aromatics jumping out of the glass, the initial attack is superb, and the wine offers even more complexity on the palate, opulent, layered and concentrated but above all with a supreme elegance. Its structure is well hidden, but make no mistake this wine should blossom even further over the next 4-5 years and drink well for another decade. Tasted April 2007

Independent Review

93 points - Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2004 Closa Batllet is 67% Carinena, 16% Garnacha, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, and 2% Syrah aged for 15 months in French and American oak. Inky purple, the wine has a wonderful perfume of scorched earth, truffle, graphite, black cherry, and blueberry. This is followed by an opulent wine with full-body, fleshy blue fruits, and a lengthy finish in a hedonistic package. Drink this forward effort over the next 12-15 years

The production of this truly artisan wine is very limited, from a selection of Marc Ripoll's best vineyards, some of them as old as 90 years, planted on terraces. The estate vineyards are planted with the traditional Priorato varietals of garnacha and carignan, with more recently planted vines of syrah and cabernet sauvignon. Aged in French and American oak barrels for 14 months and then 6 months in bottle prior to release.
