PV Tasting Notes

Certainly some of the most decadent wines made throughout Australia are the limited production (about 300 cases of each) of Old Vine Grenache and Shiraz. The 2004 Grenache OVC, opaque purple in colour, and whilst the 2004 does not appear to be the equal of the previous vintage it still offers a decadent nose of black raspberries, blueberries, herbs, spice and pepper, followed by equally impressive thick, viscous, super-concentrated, remarkably pure and well-balanced flavours. Again there are no hard edges to this huge old vine Grenache. The wine's glycerin level gives it a sweet impression on the palate, and thus it can be drunk and enjoyed now or cellared for a decade.
Independently rated in the "World's Top 15" Grenache Wines made in 2004.

Independent Review

93 points – Robert Parker Wine Advocate
Terrific fruit is a hallmark of the 2004 Grenache Old Vine Collection (a French and American oak-aged cuvee produced from 85-year-old vines). Kirsch liqueur, liquorice, spice box, pepper, and roasted herb notes emerge from this big, full, exuberant, extroverted Australian version of a top-notch Châteauneuf du Pape.

This beautifully constructed red will best suit a rich Steak and Kidneys pie, will also go with calves liver, beef stews, turkey, guinea fowl, goose, most types of curry, lamb cutlets, meatballs, escargot, couscous spiced with vegetables, stuffed peppers or aubergine and ratatouille.

Highly experienced and knowledgeable viticulturalist and winemaker Rob Gibson and his wife Anne have built a stunning winery and cellar door at Light Pass in the Barossa Valley. Called 'Gibson's Barossa Vale Wines' they are a small artisan producer of premium wines, specialising in Shiraz and Merlot blends, much of which are snapped up by a US market hungry for rich Barossa reds made by the man who once nurtured the Penfold Grange vines. Often described as “massive, a future icon” and “technically perfect wines” generally regarded by the serious wine press as one of the top producers of South Australia, we are proud to be involved with such a winery as this.
