Watershed | Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot

World's Lowest Available Price !

5% Discount on full cases

rating: 93 vintage year: 2002 grape type:

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot

I was really so impressed by the Watershed 2002 Cabernet Merlot Blend, I found it in a flight of about 180 different wines from 16 separate producers during an afternoon tasting session in Margaret River, it ranked in the top four wines along with their Shiraz. It represents a stonking value in a Bordeaux-styled red of considerable complexity and elegance. Its deep blue/purple colour is accompanied by sweet aromas of crème de cassis, lavender, and touches of spice box. Gorgeously textured, classy, and noble, with precise flavours, terrific definition, and a long, concentrated finish, this beauty is a steal in terms of pricing. It would be interesting to insert as a ringer in a blind tasting of top classified growth Bordeaux.

Woodside Valley Estate | Baudin Cabernet Sauvignon

World's Lowest Available Price !

5% Discount on full cases

rating: 94 vintage year: 2003 grape type:

100% Cabernet Sauvignon

This Cabernet Sauvignon is 2-3 years away from seriously enjoyable drinking. It is a dense, full-bodied, a bit of a bruiser of a wine, with an opaque colour, and a promising but restrained bouquet of minerals, smoke, and blackcurrants. Full-bodied, rich, and intense, as well as slightly tannic and backward, it is a wine made for the long term rather than immediate drinkability. This is an immensely impressive Cabernet Sauvignon. 250 cases made. Tasted Sept 2006

Yalumba | Riesling Hand-picked

rating: 90 vintage year: 2002 grape type:

Riesling

The 2002 Hand Picked Riesling has been stored for 5 years by us after the vintage release to demonstrate Riesling’s ability to improve with age. This is made from a selection of the best parcels from a vineyard planted in the 1960s. Light gold-coloured, the wine has developed significant bouquet and flavours. Featuring notes of mineral, spring flowers, honeysuckle, and lemon-lime, this is followed by a wine with impeccable balance, intense flavours, and a lengthy finish. It will drink well for at least another 5-7 years. Last tasted Dec 2008.

Very pale almost bright green in colour, with a delicate flowery perfume of apple and pear. The wine is bright clear and elegant; significantly less sumptuous and fleshy than most Rieslings and made in a seemingly later maturing style. Long, juicy palate bursts with pristine apple, pear and guava flavours and finishes with clean acids. This should develop so well with some bottle age. Tasting Note June 2003.

Emina | Prestigio | Ribera del Duero

5% Discount on full cases

rating: 91 vintage year: 2003 grape type:

100% Tempranillo

The 2003 Emina Prestigio comes from 100% Tempranillo aged 18 months in New French oak. The wine is a saturated purple colour and exhibits some spice, soy, and almost exotic wild blueberry and blackberry aromas. There is a supple mouth-feel and generous blueberry, blackberry and cherry fruit flavours with enough ripe tannins to ensure good longevity. The wine has a vibrant feel on the palate and there is plenty of ripe tannin to support several more years of aging.
Independently Ranked by price as the "Worlds Best" Ribera del Duero produced in 2003.

Capcanes | Mas Donis

5% Discount on full cases

rating: 90 vintage year: 2006 grape type:

80% Grenache/Garnacha, 20% Syrah

The 2006 Mas Donis a straightforward unoaked, gorgeously pure, ripe wine, smoky blackcurrant and kirsch-scented nose, a sweet, ripe, fleshy entry, abundant fruit with a touch of spice, glycerine, and extract, and a soft, low acid, ripe, uncomplicated but very juicy fleshy finish. This is a hedonistically styled, deliciously rich and fruit forward red wine which should be consumed over the next 2-5 years. I generally taste about 2,000 wines each year at this price point and buy perhaps one each year if lucky, this is a remarkable value from Spain!
